One of the biggest workplace buzzwords of recent years has been ‘Unconscious Bias’ as it’s known to impact an organisation’s productivity levels by influencing its hiring and teamwork practices. That’s why our Module of the Month for March is Unconscious Bias.

In the UK, employers are legally obliged to ensure all employees are treated equally by effectively combating discrimination, especially when it’s directed towards protected characteristics, such as age, race, gender and sexual orientation.

But as people often aren’t aware they hold these unconscious biases, it can be an uphill struggle.

That’s why the United Nations has designated March 1 as Zero Discrimination Day in a bid to highlight everyone’s right to live a life free from discrimination.

As millions continue to face derogatory behaviour because of who they are, what they believe and what they do, this year’s campaign invites people to reflect on their actions by challenging them to recognise when discrimination occurs with the question ‘What If?’

Our module is designed to help people recognise when unconscious bias is affecting their behaviour by exploring the nine types of bias and providing a range of ways to mitigate their influence in the workplace.
