Big Energy Savings Week is an awareness campaign, run by Citizens Advice, to provide consumers across the UK with access to advice on how to switch energy supplier or tariff to get the best deal, access discounts and make homes energy efficient.
Running from the 20th to the 26th of January, the national campaign aims to help people cut their fuel bills and get all the financial support they need. What’s more, the event brings attention to the consumption of fuel and energy and ways to become a bit more energy efficient.
By making simple changes around your home, you can have a significant impact on your own energy usage. Here are five simple changes you could make:
- Setting the thermostat to only come on when you need it, during peak times when you are in your home.
- Close your curtains in the evening to prevent heat from escaping.
- Turn lights off when you leave the room.
- Only boil as much water as you need at a time.
- When doing the laundry, try to fill the washing machine and dryer as one full load uses less energy than two half loads.
To recognise Big Energy Savings Week 2020, we’ve chosen our Sustainability module as January’s Module of the Month. As part of our Social & Corporate Responsibility suite, this course explores the importance of sustainability and ways in which we can reduce our harmful impact on the environment to make a better world for future generations.
Considering the consequences of inaction and the importance of environmental awareness, we must increasingly look to individuals, businesses and governments to bring about change. The course explores the environmental, economic and social aspects of sustainability, ways in which we can reduce our impact and the benefits of doing so.
