Since 1970, April 22 has been recognised as Earth Day around the world and in a bid to create a better environment for future generations, we’ve therefore chosen “Sustainability” as our Module of the Month.
Leading the world’s largest environmental movement, with 1 billion participants across 195 countries, the Earth Day Network has chosen to focus their 2018 campaign on ending plastic pollution.
The exponential rise in the use of plastics over recent decades is having a significant impact on the environment, with wasted products injuring marine life, disrupting human hormones and clogging landfill sites.
In fact, research suggests that if current trends continue, 13.2 billion tons of plastic will be wasted by 2050… that the equivalent of 1 billion London buses.
So, what can you do?
Well, the Earth Day Network recommends applying the 5R’s… reduce, refuse, reuse, recycle and remove to your plastic consumption. For example, refuse to use plastic straws in restaurants, and reuse plastic bottles to reduce the amount of waste you’re producing.
MicroLearn’s Sustainability Module was designed to take a broad view in it’s exploration of the environmental, economic and social considerations involved in protecting the planet for future generations.
