It’s nearly been a year since the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into effect on the 25th of May 2018, introducing wide-ranging changes to the existing legislative regime.
As the dust settles after the implementation and with the introduction of the Data Protection Act 2018, which brings Britain’s data protection laws into the 21st century, by writing GDPR into UK law and ensuring both law enforcement and intelligence services are held to similar standards, the attitude towards data privacy and protection has undoubtedly shifted.
With the GDPR intending to hand control of personal data back to the individuals, organisations have been required to demonstrate evidence compliance with the regulations, regardless of their size, industry or location. The penalties for breaches include up to 20million Euros (or sterling equivalent) or 4% of the total annual turnover – whichever is higher.
In 2017, we introduced an intermediary What To Expect From The New GDPR course which acted as an informative stop-gap before the legislation was officially introduced last year. In April 2018, we introduced to the library a brand new comprehensive GDPR series to support clients in the transition period from the Data Protection Act 1998 to the new EU legislation, replacing MicroLearn’s existing Data Protection Act series.
